Tuesday, 20 August 2019 | Sydney

New venue information: Due to high demand, the Risk Symposium 2019 has been moved to The Establishment Ballroom, 252 George Street, Sydney.
Rethinking Risk, Taking Action
Norton Rose Fulbright's Risk Advisory team is pleased to invite you to the Risk Symposium 2019. The theme for the event is “Rethinking Risk, Taking Action”, and will showcase some of the evolving focus areas for our growing Risk Advisory practice in Australia.

We welcome Geoff Summerhayes, Executive Board Member at APRA; accomplished business executive and director Diane Smith-Gander AO; as well as other senior business leaders and experts for discussions on some of the most pressing and challenging risks of our time. Sessions will cover:

Culture and conduct risk management: Translating vision into action
With organisations now counting the cost of operational and conduct risk management failures, and regulators wrestling with how to tackle it, all organisations must now urgently answer: how do we understand what our culture is and what can we do about it?

Climate risk management: The new business imperative
With the global debate on climate change heating up, and investors and regulators alike signalling heightened expectations for corporations to assess climate risk and provide appropriate disclosure, taking action on climate risk management has never been more urgent.

Find out more about each session and some of our distinguished guests below.

Session information

Culture and conduct risk management:
Translating vision into action
Session overview:
The importance of organisational culture to managing non-financial risk, and mitigating the risk of poor customer outcomes, has rightly been in the spotlight in recent times.

With organisations now counting the cost of operational and conduct risk management failures, and regulators wrestling with how to tackle it, all organisations must now urgently answer: how do we understand what our culture is and what can we do about it?
Rethinking Risk, Taking Action:
A conversation with Geoff Summerhayes
Session overview:
APRA’s operating environment is becoming increasingly complex, and expectations of APRA are evolving.

As prudential regulator, APRA’s core focus is the financial safety and stability of regulated entities and the resilience of the Australian financial system. But as the real financial impact of ‘non-financial risk’ comes into view, APRA will inevitably be rethinking risk, and taking action to strengthen its approach to ensure it remains an effective prudential regulator into the future.
Climate risk management:
The new business imperative
Session overview:
With the global debate on climate change heating up, and investors and regulators alike signalling heightened expectations for corporations to assess climate risk and provide appropriate disclosure, taking action on climate risk management has never been more urgent.

It is now incumbent on all organisations to overcome inertia and answer: how do we begin to understand physical and transition risks and assess what a low-carbon future will mean for us?
Drinks & canapés
Join us after the final session for drinks and networking opportunities at The Establishment Ballroom.
